Propose an Institution or Conference Visit
Thank you for your interest in having the National Science Foundation’s Graduate Research Fellowship Program visit your institution or conference to discuss funding for those pursuing research-based master’s or PhD degrees in NSF-supported fields.
As part of NSF’s mission to reach underrepresented universities and regions across the United States, an institution or conference visit and presentation for students, faculty, and staff may be requested. Travel costs associated with these trips are incurred by us. Due to our limited personnel and availability, we strongly encourage that appropriate faculty, staff, and current GRFP fellows at your institution have been approached to give a presentation on the program and distribute handouts. Please note: Institutions who currently have very few or no GRFP fellows will take precedence over institutions who currently have a large number of fellows.
If you would like to request an institution or conference visit, please email the Outreach Team at outreach@nsfgrfp.org with a short proposal.
In order to make our visit the most productive for all interested parties, we ask that the following criteria are addressed:
- There is a confirmed audience of at least 30 students, faculty, and staff willing to attend a presentation with a question and answer session.
- At institutions, we are able to meet with appropriate faculty and administration to discuss current trends, questions, and experiences concerning student involvement and applications to the GRFP. Appropriate administration may include the Dean of the Graduate School, College Deans, Vice President for Research, Provost/Vice Provost, Dean of the Honors College, Fellowship Advisor, Head of Disabilities Services, Diversity Coordinator, Department Heads, GRFP Coordinating Official(s), and those heading appropriate NSF-supported institutional programs (such as AGEP, REU or LSAMP).
- The event is publicized to all appropriate audiences, including undergraduate, graduate, and faculty in NSF-supported fields, neighboring institutions, and appropriate student societies and organizations.
- Any current or former GRFP fellows or review panelists are encouraged to attend in order to share their experiences.
- Ways your institution or organization has been, or would like to be, involved with promoting the GRFP
- Requested date of visit is specified, and your proposal is sent at least 60 days in advance.
