Why volunteer to help?

The required essays are a major component of the GRFP application.  While writing an essay may be standard fare for most applications, the NSF GRFP tasks the applicant to write about one's self and one's past research experience, as well as one's future research plans.  All of these may seem daunting to even the most well-rounded students.

One of the greatest struggles of the GRFP applicants is conveying their ideas in a form that meets the scientific standards of the reviewers, while also conveying how their research is crucial in all walks of society, far outside the laboratory environment.

Having an individual to critique their essays, someone to assist in the formulation of their research plan, or simply having someone to speak to about the role of NSF in academia, is undeniably valuable to all applicants.

How can I help?

We are asking for the support of academic faculty and staff, as well as those in industry or national laboratories, in helping us to create a database of contacts for students at their institution.  This information will be utilized by applicants attending or interested in attending your institution.

If you would like to help, please complete the short form on the right of this page. We thank you in advance for helping to make a positive difference to students.
