Note This eligibility questionnaire is provided as a tool to assist potential applicants for the NSF GRFP. The information contained in this questionnaire is based on the official eligibility information in the NSF GRFP Program Solicitation but is not an official determination of an individual's eligibility. The questionnaire contains dates and eligibility policies relevant to individuals interested in applying for the 2021 GRFP Competition (October 2020 submission deadlines).
Individuals who do not intend to enroll or be enrolled full-time in a research-based graduate degree program in an eligible Field of Study in STEM or STEM education by Fall of the year after the GRFP deadline are not eligible.
Individuals who have completed more than one academic year in a degree-granting program OR earned a previous master's degree of any kind (including bachelor's-master's degree) OR earned a professional degree are eligible only if: 1. They have had a continuous interruption in graduate study of at least two consecutive years immediately prior to the application deadline; and are not enrolled in a degree-granting graduate program at the application deadline. 2. Are currently enrolled as first-year doctoral students, who have not previously applied as graduate students and enrolled in the doctoral program the semester following award of the joint degree.
